This year’s Kumbh Mela is spread over an area of 3,200 hectare as compared to 1,600 hectare area in the previous melas. The Kumbh Mela  is anchored in Hindu mythology. It is the largest public gathering and collective act of faith anywhere in the world. Ardh Kumbh is held in every six years, while the Kumbh Mela comes after 12 years.The mela draws tens of millions of pilgrims over the course of approximately 48 days to bathe at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati river. The congregation includes Ascetics, Saints, Sadhus, Sadhvis, Kalpvasis and pilgrims from all walks of life.

EXPLORE ALLAHABAD

Allahabad is a city in Uttar Pradesh State, North India. Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and “invisible” Saraswati rivers, is considered holy by Hindus. It’s near the 16th-century Allahabad Fort, built by Mughal Emperor Akbar. In the fort are the ancient sandstone Ashoka Pillar, the underground Patalpuri Temple and a sacred banyan tree.

Allahabad Fort

Allahabad Fort is a popular tourist attraction in Allahabad. It was one of the most prized citadels of the Mughal Empire. Built in 1583, the fort is near the confluence of the Yamuna and Ganga Rivers and stands testimony to the grandeur of medieval architecture. The regal fort has three gateways and enormous walls. The outer wall has withstood the test of time and is a good condition which can be seen if you take a boat ride.

Anand Bhavan

Anand Bhavan was constructed in the 1930’s by the Indian leader Motilal Nehru as the Nehru Family residence. The building was constructed as the former residence of the Nehru Family known as the Swaraj Bhavan was donated to the Indian National Congress. The building was donated to the Indian Government by Indira Gandhi in 1970 and is today a house museum that depicts the life and times of the Nehru family. It also houses the Jawahar Planetarium which was built in 1979 and is a must visit.

This marvel piece was finally completed in the year 1662, under the guidance of the great Mughal King Jahangir. This historic garden was made in the memory of his son Khusro.

Triveni Sangam

Triveni Sangam is the confluence of the 3 major rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. The place is considered as one of the major sites of the Kumbh Mela which is held once in every 12 years.

Allahabad Museum

The museum is located beside the Chandra Shekar Azab park. It was inaugurated in 1947. The museum has archaeological findings, natural history exhibits, art gallery and artifacts.
